Compare a scanned PDF with the draft

A signed copy is often a photo of the pages. The draft is a clean file. Put both on the desk. The scan is read from the page image, and a line that cannot be read is called uncertain instead of invented.

A scan has no text to select

A normal PDF has words the computer can select. A scanned PDF is a picture of those words, so selecting does nothing. The desk still opens it next to the other file. A text-layer comparison, with red, green, and orange marks from a line check, is described on compare two PDFs.

Signed copy against the last clean version

Look for a signature block with no signature, a blank date, an exhibit the draft names and the scan does not include, or a total that does not match. Find gaps marks the quote on the page when it can see those words. Yellow is a gap, red is a conflict, blue is something to confirm. A finding whose words are not on the page stays in the list without a mark.

Click a citation and the desk moves to that page. You are looking at the same scan the report used.

A hard-to-read page stays uncertain

Skew, stamps, and handwriting make a page harder. The report only talks about pages it was given. It will not call a clause missing when it never saw the page where that clause would sit. Photos from a phone, saved as JPEG, open the same way. Turn one into a PDF on the JPG to PDF page if you need a PDF copy beside the picture.

DocuGaps is not a law firm. A mark is a place to look, and the page is still the source.

Questions

How do I compare two scanned PDFs?
Upload both scans and put them side by side. Compare marks the differences it can read. Find gaps lists what is missing, in conflict, or worth confirming.
Can I compare a scan with a Word file?
Yes. The .docx is converted to a PDF from its text, then it sits next to the scan. An old .doc file has to be saved as .docx or PDF first.
Does the scan need a text layer?
No. A page that is only an image is read from that image. If the words are too faint or skewed, the report says what is uncertain.
What is the difference between a PDF and a scanned PDF?
A normal PDF contains selectable text. A scanned PDF is a picture of the pages stored as a PDF. Both open on the desk. The scan is read as a picture.
